Introduction/ History:
Doctor of Physical therapy is a versatile and emerging field of medical sciences. It is a professional degree with 5 year program which enables one to become a professionally independent practitioner. It is a program approved by HEC and is equivalent to 17 years of education after completion. Physical Therapy has become most popular among medical fields in past two decade after American Physical therapy Association had announced APTA rules of 2020. By the efforts of APTA bachelor of Physical Therapy have now become Doctor of Physical Therapy, it gave Physical Therapist the authority of independent practice and direct referral. This has raised the status of physical Therapy worldwide and now Physical Therapy is one of the innovative and popular fields.
In Pakistan first School of Physical Therapy was established in Jinnah Post-graduate Medical Center (JPMC) in 1956 by the Ministry of Health in collaboration with World Health Organization (WHO) as a 2- year diploma program. The status of physical Therapy has been updated over time. In present era HEC and NCRC has launched a mature Physical Therapy Professional degree Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) throughout the country. HEC has devised the Title of the graduate professionals as Dr.XYZ.PT.
